About event

Wabunka invites you to an informal summer meeting in the Japanese spirit. Come and sit on a blanket, meet friends, have something good and most importantly dance the Bon Odori together.

When: Sunday 16/08/2026, 17:00 to 19:00
Where: Kampa Park
Entrance: free

Bring a blanket, food, drink, good mood, yukata if you have one, and I want to dance. No previous experience is necessary. The steps are simple, they are repeated and the goal is not perfection, but a shared experience.

You will learn basic Bon dances under guidance.

What is Bon Odori?
Bon Odori, often also Bon dance, are traditional community dances associated with the Japanese summer season of Obon. Obon is a time in Japan when ancestors are remembered and their souls are symbolically welcomed back to the living. In Japan, Bon Odori is often danced in parks, open spaces or at temples and shrines, accompanied by music, lanterns and a summer festival atmosphere.

Today, Bon Odori is not only a tradition, but also a pleasant community event that almost everyone can join. Dances tend to be based on simple, repetitive movements, so there is no need to know how to dance beforehand. Just watch, try the first steps and let yourself be guided by the rhythm. If it proves successful, we would like to make it an official event next year.

We look forward to seeing you at Kampa. Come and enjoy a piece of Japanese summer in Prague.
