We are happy to invite you to the conference entitled: From linguistic isolation to inclusion: Deaf Roma and their place in society, which will take place on December 16, 2024 from 09:00 to 16:00. at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava (Mlynské luhy 4, Bratislava). The conference is organized by the civic association SVET TICHA in cooperation with the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava and with the support of partners RESDI, Fr. z., MRGE - MARIO and the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic.
The conference presents a unique platform that deals with hitherto unexplored challenges faced by deaf Roma in marginalized communities. The conference with its thematic focus is the first event of its kind in Slovakia, organized with the aim of laying the foundations for the creation and implementation of systemic changes aimed at solving the complex problems of deaf Roma in Slovakia.
The aim of the conference is to share with the public the results of extensive research , carried out mapping of the situation of deaf Roma, who, due to the absence of access to education in the area of Roma, Slovak and sign language, face a deep linguistic isolation. This isolation consequently significantly limits their access to quality education, health care and social opportunities.
