About event
Dear journalists,
Dear journalism students,
Dear interested parties,
The Department of Comparative Religious Studies FiF UK in cooperation with OZ Old Catholics in Slovakia invites you to the second part of the professional workshop prepared for people from the media, which will focus on practical topics regarding reporting on religious issues with a special focus on the issues of minority religious communities and new religious movement.
Since we had to cancel the workshop on the original date of November 28, 2024 due to threatening e-mails at the Comenius University and the subsequent extraordinary rector's leave, we are now coming up with a new date.
The second part of our workshop will take place on Monday 9 December 2024 in the premises of the Comenius University Infocenter at Štúrová 9 in Bratislava from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The aim of the working meeting is to promote awareness of the topic and the ability to professionally reflect it in the media.
Participants of the workshop, together with experts, will consider how to facilitate sensitive, but also critical, consistent and open reporting on issues related to religious communities.
This challenge turns out to be even more urgent in the context of other events that have become the center of social or media controversies.
The "journalistic" workshop follows on from previous activities within our project - an expert round table with the participation of representatives of public human rights institutions and others round table with members of the National Council of the Slovak Republic. During the workshop, we will also be happy to provide you with information about their progress and outputs.
We are organizing the workshop as part of a grant, which is focused on issues of the position of smaller churches and religious societies in Slovakia, thanks to which we can prepare it for you free of charge .
We look forward to your participation!
