Ola Nenko works with metal as a language: raw, uncompromising, precise. Each fired line bears a trace of movement - personal and collective, chosen and forced. Her installations move in the space between stability and its absence, between the material, the body and the crumbling certainties of the present.
The starting point of the exhibition is a metal tent that weighs too much to move. In the summer it overheats from the sun, in the rain it lets water through the holes burned into its surface. It can serve neither as a permanent abode nor as a nomadic refuge. Ola Nenko chose this paradox on purpose. Burnt drawings of the moon, stars, or celestial creatures on its mantle let light through and project it onto the surrounding walls. We cannot see the whole under the metal sky. We have to get out of the tent, out of the situation, to understand what we experienced in it.
Ola Nenko (*1996) is a visual artist born in Krakow. She graduated from the Department of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and studied in Portugal at the Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto in 2018-2019. In his artistic practice, he devotes himself to sculpture, the creation of objects and scenographic installations, while investigating the issues of living space, stability and home. Her latest projects are inspired by the reflection of her own nomadic way of life, which leads her to a critical analysis of personal family history and transcending imposed patterns. Ola Nenko's works show home not only as a physical space, but as a concept full of tensions and contradictions — especially in the context of contemporary challenges connected with migration, belonging and identity. She is the laureate of the 10th year of the Gray House Foundation competition, received an honorable mention at the 10th Youth Triennial at the Polish Sculpture Center in Orońsk, and is the recipient of the Award of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for the best thesis of the Academy of Fine Arts for the year 2023.
The project was supported by the City of Košice.

Under a Metallic Sky
Ola Nenko. and language: raw, irreversible, precise. Every burnt line is a trace of movement — personal and collective, chosen and forced. Her installations explore the space between stability and its absence — in material, in the body, in the dissolving certainties of the present.

The starting point of the exhibition is a metal tent too heavy to move. In summer it overheats in the sun; in rain, water seeps inside through openings burned into its surface. It can serve neither as a permanent dwelling nor as a nomadic shelter. Ola Nenko chose this paradox deliberately. Burned drawings of a moon, stars, and celestial creatures on its shell let light through and project it onto the surrounding walls. Under a metallic sky, we cannot see the whole. We must step outside — out of the tent, out of the situation — to understand what we lived through inside it.
