”LET’S (FOLK) DANCE!” is back! Inspired by a Korean Janchi, a celebration of conviviality and exchange, everyone is warmly invited to join this series, which formerly took place at the Culture Community Center in Heizhaus. The event offers an opportunity to eat, drink, sing, and most importantly—to dance!
Each edition of “LET’S (FOLK) DANCE!” is organized by a different folk dance group. The approximately 70-minute participatory event, curated by the PSR Collective, includes a Community Dance Workshop, which requires no prior dance experience, as well as a shared meal highlighting the culinary specialties of the respective culture.
For Tanznacht 2025, PSR member Olivia Hyunsin Kim, together with Ji Sun Hagen and SHIN Hyo Jin, will organize a traditional Korean dance with singing the Ganggangsullae (강강술래), which is primarily associated with the Korean harvest festival that is often celebrated in September.
➡️ Olivia Hyunsin Kim (they/them, she/her) works as a choreographer and curator. They won the Amadeu Antonio Art Prize 2019. They hold a Masters in Choreography & Performance from the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies Giessen and a Bachelors in German from the Seoul National University. Their group ddanddarakim works on choreographic pieces with a post-colonial and queer-feminist focus, and has shown at the State Operas of Stuttgart and Hannover, at Sophiensæle Berlin, Art Sonje Centre Seoul and Museo Universitario del Chopo Mexico.
