About event

During Open Monumentendag, Peter Thoben will give a lecture at 13.00 in the chapel of Domusdela

About the monumental complex:

In 1419/1420, the then Lord of Eindhoven, Jan II of Schoonvorst (ca. 1381-1434), donated a castle on the Augustinian canon. This castle served as a monastery and was named "Ons Lieven Lady on Die Haghe". During the iconoclasm in 1566 the monastery was looted and serious damage was caused. In 1581, during the Eighty Years' War, the State army set fire to the monastery buildings and captured the approximately twenty monks. Only in 1628 was the complex somewhat recovered, the wall anchors remind us of the rear facade of the complex. In 1891 the buildings came into the hands of the Augustinians' fathers who founded a new monastery. Shortly thereafter they built a church (the Paterskerk or Augustijnenkerk) and a gymnasium for boys (the Augustinianum with accompanying chapel). The neo-gothic church was designed by architect Jos Hegener (1864-1933) and Petrus Johannes Bekkers (1859-1918). The church dates from 1898. On the spire, the Sacred Heart image of the hand of the Roermond sculptor Jean Geelen (1852-1926) is. The Augustinianum was also designed by a person and dates from the years 1913-1918. The expansion of the gymnasium and the student chapel, with the remarkable expressionist architectural style, were designed in 1924/1925 by architect Paul Bellot (1876-1944). Coöperatie DELA became the owner in 2016 and realized a special redevelopment, drawn by the Bureaus Threerendreix and Architects | and | and. The landscape design was made by Buro Lubbers.
