About event
In the heart of today's busy city, between August 29 and Karadžičová, there is an oasis of silence, where time passes differently. Ondrej's cemetery, founded in 1784, is one of the oldest preserved city cemetery in Bratislava. Once upon a time, the last resting place was the thousands of inhabitants of Prešporka - from prominent personalities to ordinary craftsmen and soldiers - and today it is a rare historic park with a touch of ancient times.
In Bratislava's wandering, we will set out in the footsteps of his story and explore what it can tell us. Ondrej. Already its location talks about how much Bratislava has grown since the end of the 18th century - a cemetery that once lay behind the walls, today surrounds the modern development. We can find baroque, classicist and Art Nouveau tombstones, each with their story. Some are the works of reputable sculptors, others are simple, but all the more sincere memories of families. At the epitaphs we read about professions, family relationships, even the events that shook the city - plague epidemics, wars or fires. Among them are burghers, architects, artists, priests and soldiers.
Cemetery is also witnessed by the multicultural character of Prešporka: we can find inscriptions in Slovak, German, Hungarian and Latin, which reflects the colorful language and national composition of the city. Walking through his streets is the way to the past, not only to the stories of the deceased, but also to the atmosphere of old Prešporka, which no longer exists. Therefore, our narration will not only focus on stone tombstones, but also on the lives of people buried here, their everyday life, joy and worries, professions, faith and values. 19th century. We will also explain the practical side of the funeral ritual in the past - as the funeral in Prešpork was held. It is a meeting with the history of the city, which is written in stone, metal and wood, but also in the silence that rules here. It is an opportunity to think about the passage of time, what remains after people, and the value of the monuments that form an integral part of our cultural heritage. Every tombstone here has its voice and we will try to hear it on this show. 29 August in Bratislava. href = "https://tootoot.fm/en/events/68949aeC2F076AB411B1DE8E8E"> https://tootoot.fm/en/events/68949aeC2F076ab411B1de8e
