Only The Poets are a British band from Reading, consisting of Tommy Longhurst (vocals), Andy 'Roo' Burge (bass), Marcus Yates (drums) and Clem Cherry (guitar). The band is known for their melodic and emotional songs that mix elements of British indie and rock, inspired by artists such as The Cure and British 90s indie.
The band began as a local project and built their audiences through extensive tours and performances at smaller venues. Their focused efforts led to a growing fan base and major gigs in both the UK and Europe. The early years were marked by dedication to live performances, but during the pandemic the band focused on developing their sound and recording new material.
The song Waking in the Dark from this period is an example of their lyrical focus on honesty combined with a more nuanced musical expression. Their relationship with fans is central, and they have created a close community, including through online events during lockdown.
In 2023, the band signed a contract with EMI and released the co-produced single Even Hell with Charlie Hugall. With this release, the band continues to create songs that are both accessible and engaging for a wide audience.
