Design your own 'character' with a mission

Learn to draw a character with a distinct statement or message during this 'character design' workshop.

Who is your heroine or hero? Who is your role model? And what does your hero have to say? In this 'character design' workshop, transform your role model into a character with a mission.

During this workshop you will learn the steps you need to draw a 'character with mission'. We discuss the message that your character conveys and we spend a lesson on the visual translation of that message. If there is a subject that you find very important, incorporate it into your character. This can be a character that you have invented or you can draw one of your heroes or heroines. We conclude the lessons with a presentation of your characters on the Youth Floor.

This workshop is given as part of the Kies cartoon program; a polling station for political cartoons.

Age: from 13 years.

Program/lesson structure:

• Lesson 1: Who is your character. What does your character stand for? What does he/she look like?

• Lesson 2: What does your character stand for? What is he/she fighting for? Draw your character with emotions, in an environment, a setting.

• Lesson 3: How do you translate your character's statement? Draw your character with 1 pose, 1 emotion, 1 setting and 1 statement/text.
