During this flex you will learn everything about the residents' initiative Our gardens: pioneering and gardening on Strandeiland.
Do you already see it for you? A green place close to home where you can learn to grow your own fruit and vegetables, enjoy yourself gardening or in a different role? A place to discover how to grow food, learn from and about nature, and especially to meet other IJburgers, to prepare a joint meal from the harvest and what is about to take home.
After years of arguing, lobbying and participating, it looks like this place will come in early 2026. A place of 900 m2 on the new Strandeiland, with the school gardens as a neighbor.
Supervised by a professional garden you learn how to grow vegetables and herbs in the open ground. As the knowledge of the participants increases, the role of the professional horticulture becomes smaller.
The first year we celebrate our harvest with each other: we prepare tasty dishes and food together and invite others to this, in a nice gathering building next to the garden. We would like to forge a diverse community, also with people who are more difficult to participate for various reasons.
As a participant of our gardens you make an active contribution: either (preferably) cooperating in the garden, or in a different role. We need a lot of hands. Working in the garden is relaxing, but certainly also physical work. With a sun with it, but there must also be tuined in rain and if it is colder. If you are going to participate, there is also a financial contribution. We are not aimed at profit, but we do want to work in a cost -effective way. If you have little money, but you can, for example, contribute a lot in time, we are looking for a solution.
