Dirk Jan Jager and Mariëtte Renssen celebrate that they will both be sixty this year. And because they have been working together since the early 1990s - they shared a studio in a basement in Amsterdam -Oost - they do that with an exhibition. Two artists with different backgrounds, temperaments and flavors. While Dirk Jan Rockte, Mariëtte listened to Opera, a nice blend. But they have more similarities than differences. What Dirk Jan Jager and Mariëtte Renssen connects is their love for looking, love for drawing and painting, and especially an investigation into reality as they experience it. From a silent obstinacy, they each build an authentic oeuvre. At a time when images are generally generated by AI, they consciously opt for the craft of painting and drawing, with paper, linen, attention and surrender. With head, heart and hand.
Time for a party! The "do-it-yourself" mentality that Jager and Renssen also put into practice with (group) exhibitions at home and abroad will take shape for the first time in a joint painting!
