About event
We have something special to celebrate. In season 2025-2026, the Dutch Philharmonic will turn forty. That is why we will roll out the runner for you at the concert of Saturday 20 September, and treat us to a special party evening.
Beethoven's piano concert no. 5 with Kirill Gerstein
Beethoven's monumental piano concert no. 5, the "emperors concert", is the crown on his pianoconcertten. The heroic grandeur, tough melodies and rapsodic eruptions are interrupted by a middle part that is contemplative, full of heavenly lyricism.
Kirill Gerstein is such a rare all -rounder who turns everything he touches in pure gold. From Stravinsky and Liszt with our own orchestra and Rachmaninoff with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, to jazz and contemporary music: always his audience and critics lyrical about his game. Beethoven's "Keizers concert" sounds fresh and completely convincing as Gerstein and Viotti joining forces with the Dutch Philharmonic.
Lorenzo Viotti leads Brahms ’first symphony
Johannes Brahms Nam Beethoven's symphonies as a starting point for his own first symphony. But with its autumn lyricism, subdued passion, melancholy and comforting power, it is mainly Brahms. Brahms had the greatest difficulty with his first symphony, because "What can you still compose after Beethoven's ninth?" It cost him more than fifteen years of struggling, scraping and planing. But hard work pays off: from the first iconic paper stroke to the magnificent final, every note is hit in this symphonic masterpiece.
