About event
🏛️ We fixed an error in the law. And what next?
From January 2026, the rules for the protection of victims of pre-trial violence have changed. ❌⚖️ The amendment to the Criminal Code responds to a long-criticized loophole in the law and expands the possibilities of punishing acts motivated by hatred towards people because of who they are or what group they belong to. 🏳️🌈👩🏽🦱♿
However, changing the law is only the beginning.❗As part of Prague Pride, we invite you to a round table and an open discussion about:
💬 What does the amendment actually change?
💬 How will prejudicial motive be proven in practice?
💬 What role will the police, prosecutors, courts and other institutions play?
💬 How to ensure that victims has it received real support?
💬 Is the Czech legal system ready for this change?
The following will share their experiences and views:
👨⚖️ Jan Chvatík, Supreme Prosecutor's Office
👮 Martin Janků, National Center Against Terrorism, Extremism and Cybercrime SKPV
🏛️ Karel Dvořák, Member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic
⚖️ Viktor Kundrák, Government Office Commissioner for Human Rights and Protection of Minorities
The discussion is moderated by our director 👩⚖️ Klára Kalibová.
📅 Tuesday, August 4 🕔 17:00–18:30 📍 Pride House in the French Institute (Štěpánská 644/35, Prague 1)
⚠️ Capacity is limited to approximately 30 places, so we recommend coming with a time ahead of time.
We are looking forward to a substantive debate by experts, representatives of the judiciary, the non-profit sector and the general public.
