Martina Chudá – Matúš Lányi – Richard Marco – Dezider Milly – Emil Sedlák – Monika Stacho – Miroslav Žolobanič – Peter Župník – unknown authors 18th century
< br/>curator: Adam Macko
duration: 19.11.2024 – 23.2.2025
place: Regional Gallery in Prešov, Hlavná 51, 08001 Prešov / large exhibition hall
opening: Tuesday 19.11.2024 at 17:00
A collective exhibition of selected authors of a wide range of visual media thematizes the dichotomy of the relationship between spirituality and work. Through the optics of visual art, he looks for relationships that contemplate the well-known motto of the Benedictine monastic order "pray and work".
The exhibition is part of the gallery's year-long concept, which examines the topic in the line of institutional criticism of its artistic, social, cultural, educational contexts for the post-pandemic present. The goal is to confront the meaning of the creative act (in the updating sense of work) for the present through selected works of visual art with elements of sacred iconography and historical artifacts from the gallery's collection.
The selection of works and authors ranges across a wide generational, aesthetic and media spectrum. The media represented are photography (Župník, Stacho), painting (Marco), minimalist object (Žolobanič), video (Chudá, Lányi) or drawings and graphics (Milly, Sedlák). The installation intention works with the space as a schedule of sections on the floor plan of the existing rooms, in which the aforementioned dialogue of authorship is sought.
The exhibition will be opened on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 5 p.m. in the large exhibition hall of the Regional Gallery in Prešov.
