About event
An absurdist satire and a search for hope in dark times. Origin is made by three emerging avant-garde dance makers with a socially critical look in their work. After winning the world's largest dance prize, Sarah Baltzinger & Isaiah Wilson and Olivia Court Mesa now make two world premieres at Scapino. Both dance pieces can be seen in one program with a connecting dance film that is curated by Cinedans Film festival around the same theme.
Sarah Baltzinger & Isaiah Wilson have been making a name for some years with high -profile and socially committed pieces. Their new choreography Goats is a imaginative satire in today's time. With powerful images, humorous dance language and absurdism, they comment on existing social systems and power structures. In a playful way they challenge the audience to view the world with new eyes.
In The Breakable Us, the Chilean-Israeli Olivia Court Mesa Athletic physical power with conceptual depth. Court Mesa investigates the idea that trauma is an inseparable part of our being human, from which we heal and become a new version of ourselves. Trauma as a source for growth.
Their origin in the Netherlands at Scapino
For Scapino's Talent Development Program Origin, artistic director Nanine Linning invites Promising Talent. Under her artistic leadership, they make a program for the great halls for the first time that is presented throughout the Netherlands.
