About event

“The greater the love, the wider and more diverse this world,” wrote Novalis. With these lines, nine writers from the Schreibhain Author School invite you to what is now the eighth original edition. The theme this time: winter harvest.

Whether it's (vegan) roast goose and the glow of lights, slush in Berlin or the crackling of a fireplace - everyone associates their own world of memories with the winter time. An evening for everyone who wants to experience young and contemporary literature live - with and without sugar coating, but definitely with verve and voice.

Reading in issue #8 are Christian Engel, Gurbet Yasemin Şen, Lina R. Ruess, Inga Lohrmann, Birgit Samer, Milla Be, Signe Ibbeken, Finja Alfes and Katrin Schmeckert. The evening will be moderated by Tanja Steinlechner, the owner and director of the Schreibhain Author School.

Christian Engel, born in 1989, studied politics in Frankfurt/M. and Brighton. He works as editorial director of a communications agency in Berlin. He was awarded the main prize of the Hessian-Thuringian Literature Forum. Since 2025 he has been a scholarship holder in year XXII of the Schreibhain.

Gurbet Yasemin Şen is a Berlin author with Turkish roots. She has been a scholarship holder of the Berlin Writers' School Schreibhain since 2024 and a member of the Authors' Forum Berlin since 2025. She has published a poem in a poetry anthology and a political column in the taz.

Lina R. Ruess, born in 1994, studied psychology in Munich and currently lives and writes in Frankfurt/M. Her story “The Secret Secret Santa Checklist” was published by Wreaders Verlag in December 2022. It is part of the XXI. Class of the Berlin Writers' School Schreibhain.

Inga Lohrmann, who grew up in a place between Wanne-Eickel and Billerbeck, studied at the Hildesheim Literature Institute, writes, publishes in anthologies and presents her texts at reading stages and poetry slams.

Milla Be, born in 1972, is a writer and lives in Berlin. She has been published in various anthologies and is a 2025 winner of the Ennigerloher Sealing Ring. The Cultural Foundation of the States supported her with a residency grant at the Villa Decius in Krakow.

Birgit Samer works as a video journalist in Vienna. In 2024 she published the novel “Life Marathon – Letters from an Eating Disordered Relationship”. With an associated website, she fights against toxic body images and offers initial help for those affected. She is currently working on her first thriller.

Signe Ibbeken lives as an actress and author in Berlin. She organizes readings and publishes short prose in literary magazines and anthologies. In 2018 she became a scholarship holder at Schreibhain. Her last book publication “There is a frozen deer standing in a clearing” was published by PalmArtPress in 2018.

During her illustration studies, Finja Alfes, among other things, worked in food trucks, shoe stores and cafes. She worked as a carer for people with disabilities on holiday camps. At art school she wrote the e-book “somehow apart” about this work and filled it with illustrations.

Katrin Schmeckert is an architect and native of Berlin. She lives there with her husband and child. She regularly performs at open reading stages with her short stories. She has been writing her first novel since the end of 2023.
