About event
Presentation of the Czech translation of the novel Avalovar by the Brazilian writer Osman Lins.
The novel Avalovaro (1973) by Osman Lins, one of the giants of Brazilian literature of the 20th century, represents a unique work of Latin American literature, for the translation of which Czech readers had to wait half a century.
In an admittedly geometrically constructed novel, the story of a love affair between one man and three women unfolds, which is also a story of the search for a higher meaning and cosmic order of being in the gap between South America and the old continent with its culture. Above all, however, it is a breathtaking song of love as a hope for the revival of the world in a time of unfreedom.
Program:
Introduction and reading of an excerpt in Brazilian Portuguese: Luciana Molina (Brazilian lecturer at the Faculty of Arts, UK)
Discussion of the book: Václav Jamek (moderator and author of the afterword), Vlasta Dufková (translator) and Vít Kazmar (editor).
Musical accompaniment: Camões h.b.
The event is part of a wider program of celebrations on the occasion of the Day of the Portuguese Language, organized by the Portuguese Center in Prague and supported by the Brazilian Embassy in Prague and the Guimarães Rosa Institute.
