Everyone at one table?!
On the days around October 3rd, theater makers Gesine Danckwart and Katrin Hentschel are opening the first EAST-WEST CANTINE. In order to question reunification from the underground and celebrate it in a new and different way, we are putting dialogue at the center. We invite viewers, artists, experts, citizens and interested parties: get together! Exchange ideas!
Stories, attitudes, designs, music and menus about the past and present, European borders, sustainability and shared visions of the future are performed and discussed around the collective canteen fire. It's about the “we” of our past and present: East. West. Woman. Man. Above. Below. Together.
With songs by Masha Qrella, in a setting by Johanna Meyer and Alexander Wolf, in which Western and Eastern icons meet, Fame is twinned with socialist handshakes, we are developing a new artistic-discursive format.
As an invitation to art and running audiences and by using Pariser Platz, we want to cross borders. Alongside rituals, workshops, performative inserts, readings and songs by numerous guests.
Over four days, the room fills with the results and drawings of our surveys and happenings. We chop things together and discuss identities. Soljanka, sauerkraut or black and sour? What values connect us? What are our songs and stories? Can we actually sing a hymn together?
The canteen is an invitation to dialogue!
