About event
We cordially invite you to the opening of the COSMIC LANDSCAPE exhibition, which will take place on May 13 (Wednesday) at 4:00 p.m. in Pretoria on Nám. Štefana Moysesa 51/25 in Banská Bystrica.
Cosmic Landscape is an exhibition of artists Dušan Slivka and Juraj Gábor, which will create a platform for several months in the Pretoria SSG building to explore the phenomenon that surrounds us every day and we call it landscape.
Dušan Slivka entered the art scene in the 1970s. With a cycle of minimalist photographs, he rejected the romanticized understanding of the landscape and enriched the landscape tradition with a universal image offering a universal experience, without ties to topos or national myth. He thus created an ideal type of landscape from a phenomenological point of view, a space for our thinking about the elements, structures and meanings that build our relationship with the world we inhabit.
What we find in Slivkov's carefully composed two-dimensional world, Juraj Gábor creates in the real world. He is known above all for his large-scale site-specific installations with precisely executed architecture, with which he activates the viewer to think about space, the view, the image, while regularly this also happens in the landscape, or with awareness of the landscape. At the same time, Gábor does not only shape the object itself structurally, aesthetically and philosophically, but also its existence and context with the wider surroundings.
Despite the fact that from today's point of view it is an intergenerational exhibition, it is essentially an exhibition of people in their forties. Dušan Slivka (1944) created his cycle when he was forty years old, Juraj Gábor (1985) is currently forty years old, and so is the curator. Human experience is largely universal, and some questions simply remain. The horizon is not a line in space, but the limit of our current vision. The Cosmic Landscape exhibition has the ambition to see beyond this border.
