About event
Presentation of mountain and sheep farming culture in Slovakia - cattle herding, sheep shearing. / Demonstration of the Shepherd's farming culture in Slovakia.
Sheep farming as a part of shepherding has a permanent place in Slovak traditional culture with its manifestations. You can get to know and experience its daily activities, products and significance in the life of our ancestors on Sunday, May 17, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Slovak Village Museum at the Ovčiarska Sunday event.
In the program at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The Smrečany Folklore Group will present sheep shearing from the Liptov village of Smrečany. Shepherd and shepherd songs will be performed by the Gajdoš Folk Music of the Turiec - Dulickí Pastieri Folklore Ensemble.
The popular sheep's milk products, such as sheep's cheese, skewers, sausages and threads, are still an inseparable symbol of mountain farming. Visitors to the museum will be able to get acquainted with the traditional processes of milk processing and cheese production during live demonstrations starting at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and buy the products from the manufacturer.
In addition to demonstrations of cheese production, there are also demonstrations of sheep's wool processing, in which creative workshops are prepared for those interested, where they will be able to try carding, felting and spinning wool. There will also be demonstrations of manual sheep shearing.
Traditional shepherding and sheep farming is also the central theme of the exhibition "From Juraj to Mitra. Shepherding and shepherding in a traditional environment", which will be reinstalled after last year's successful premiere and made available not only during the event, but also during the summer season in the premises of Vozárne z Moškovec. The exhibition presents the most important aspects of traditional shepherding and sheep farming, with a focus on mountain farming, and visitors can come and see it until September 30, 2026.
Traditional shepherding and sheep farming includes the processing of various types of wood. At the event, we will present folk art production - carving (production of mountain utensils from wood and wood), there will also be sales and production of other folk art and craft products.
The event will also include ev. a. v. Services of God in the church from Rudno at 1:30 p.m.
