The New Jersey matadors OVERKILL will dominate Modra Vopica on July 12, as part of a unique OPEN AIR performance!. Expect lightning thrash metal, Verni's rumbling bass and Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth's immortal howl. No trends, just honest open-air destruction!
Overkill are synonymous with unbreakableness in the metal world. Since 1980, when they laid the foundations of East American thrash metal, they have not let up on any of the twenty studio albums to date. While the "Big Four" experimented over the decades, Overkill, led by the central duo of Ellsworth/Verni, relentlessly honed their unique sound defined by hyperactive tempo and punk brashness. Albums like Taking Over or The Years of Decay shaped the genre, but it was the Ironbound record that breathed new life into the band in 2010 and confirmed their status as the uncrowned kings of the subgenre who refuse to age.
At the Modré Vopice venue, we will see a set that will tap your neck spine through a cross-section of the entire discography - from raw beginnings to modern gems like "Mean, Green, Killing Machine". Overkill live like a well-oiled demolition machine, dominated by the iconic "clanking" bass sound of D.D. Verni's and charismatic performance of "Blitz", who rules the stage with unrelenting energy. Thrash Sunday with everything! The legendary Overkill will be joined by two regulars of the domestic scene. The evening will be opened by the Wallachian hounds Refore, who started to challenge the domestic cultists as teenagers 10 years ago and with their energy reached the Wacken podium last year. After the change of drummer in March, this will be their first performance in Prague, so we can look forward to a completely new sound!
Laid to Waste will perform second in order to the stage. Originally from Pilsen, now from Prague, the quartet stirred up the underground waters already with their debut album Counterattack from 2015. The extreme speed and high-pitched vocals of frontman Smrťák are the hallmarks of the band even today, when they rank among the most important and popular Czech bands within the genre.
