About event
The Nigerian bestselling author Oyinkan Braithwaite will celebrate the German premiere of “The Curse of the Falodun Women” with you on November 3rd at the Pablo Neruda District Central Library! She talks to Stefanie Hirsbrunner from Intercontinental about her new novel about family, fate and damnation.
About the book:
Eniiyi is born on the day her aunt Monife is buried. Due to the uncanny resemblance to Monife, the family is certain: she is their reincarnation. The women in Eniiyi's family have not found peace for generations because they have lost the men they love. According to the Yoruba priestess Mama G, there is a curse at work that will doom them all. The question remains: Can at least Eniiyi escape the family curse and the mysterious fate that has befallen Monife? Oyinkan Braithwaite tells a highly original story about an all-female household, about things that are rational and things we cannot explain. “The Curse of the Falodun Women” is laconically funny, haunting and hypnotically captivates us.
Oyinkan Braithwaite is the bestselling author of “My Sister, the Serial Killer,” which has now been translated into 30 languages and sold millions of copies. The novel has received numerous awards and was on the shortlist for the Women's Prize for Fiction and the longlist for the Booker Prize in 2019, among others. Braithwaite is also a screenwriter, including the film adaptation of her first novel. She lives in the UK and Nigeria.
