About event
Nazi domination ends and the nationalist mood in Brno opens in the expulsion of about 30,000 people. Already in May 1945, 24,000 German inhabitants were expelled from Brno. They are driven towards the Austrian border and this event will fit in history as a Brno death march.
25 years ago in Brno, the first initiatives were established to commemorate these events and demanded an apology by the city. The city of Brno expressed its regret in 2015 and the pilgrimage of reconciliation, which takes place at the Meeting Brno festival, has since become an integral part of Brno identity and memory.
As part of the discussion, we will present the latest knowledge of May 1945 and talk to important actors, as the recollection of these events changes. The program takes place as part of the monthly theme of the Dialogue Center "The weight of memory, the power of hope"
participants:
- Tomáš Dvořák (historian, Masaryk University)
(founder of the Youth Association for intercultural understanding and co -author of the call to the city of Brno).
-David Macek (co-founder of Meeting Brno festival)
Moderate: Niklas Perzi (historian, editor of the Czech-Austrian book Neighbors: Czech-Austrian History) Brno.
