Location: Residency Unlimited (RU), 360 Court Street, Unit 4, Brooklyn, NY 11231
Join us for a panel discussion exploring Slovak art and culture!
The panel discussion will provide insights into the responses that emerged in the art and culture scene of Slovakia as reactions to political changes in the 20th and 21st centuries. Therefore, the event will highlight the transformative role of art in resistance, fostering dialogue and understanding its societal impact. The presentations by keynote speakers will deal with several interconnected topics.
Our speakers will address several interconnected topics:
🛡Peter Kršák will delve into the history and context of the contemporary Slovak art scene, a foundation for understanding present-day cultural responses.
🛡Zuzana Godálová will share details about Independent Cultural network Antena in Slovakia, revealing how the platform is driving innovation and collaborations.
🛡Anna Jabłonowska Holy will introduce the Open Culture! Platform, an independent civic group established in January 2024 to protect Slovak culture from political interference.
🛡Zuzana Jakalová will discuss cultural unions and cultural workers’ rights, drawing on her active involvement in the field.
The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A session.
