About event

PASI Mäkelä as part of the Festival Bazaar invites you to explore the art process that combines improvisation, physical theater and sound art. In the workshop inspired by the Fugk project, the participants immerse themselves in finding a balance between structure and freedom, between ritual and accident, and find out how to work with chaos, absurdity and sit-Specic. PASI Mäkelä invites you to look into his artistic process and to share the principles that shaped his most important works. Through improvisation, physical theater and sound art, he seeks ways to connect the structure with freedom and give shape and seemingly random situations. What place does a ritual, coincidence or instinct in performative work? And when is it best to let things just flow?

The workshop will be inspired by the Fugk-Finno-Ugric Garage Kabuki project, which combines elements of Japanese Kabuki with garage aesthetics and Ugrofin roots. PASI Mäkelä works with the body as an instrument, voice as music and space as a screenplay. Visitors will be able to explore the boundaries between rational and irrational, between order and madness - and find out what happens when it embarks on the unknown. Performance, conceptual artist and musician living in Prague. In his work he moves on the border of improvisation, body art, sound art and sit-specific performances. His latest projects, including Sabotanic Garden - Death Gardens or Walrus Vampire Show, show his unique approach to theater and performing on stage. He works as a musician on the Prague improvisation scene and in The Spermbankers. In 1998–2002 he studied theater direction at the Academy of Arts in Turk. In 2012–2017 he performed with a solo physical performance tontta in Slovakia, Germany, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Austria and the US and its long-term Site-Specific project Buto Uuno Turhabuto (2004–2008). He now works as a teacher at the Prague DAMU.
