There are places we prefer to avoid. We don't hang around them. We bypass them. We don't talk about them. They are taboo. The exhibition Passage Through The Space examines our relationship to places affected by war or military activity. They become non-places. Without a clear purpose and reason for staying. A trio of exhibitors enters these spaces and creates a photographic record of the timelessness that prevails inside the space of the former Eastern Bloc.

Yana Kononová's project Peat Ontologies deals with the disappearing biotope of bogs, which in relation to human activity appear to be non-places - for most people it represents only an unproductive barrier, but it has an incredible power to preserve and conserve. This disappearing biotope can therefore teach us a lot about the functioning of nature today.

Filip Láb and Bára Mrázková use the format of a fictional documentary to explore an abandoned military area, which preserves the silent battlefield of the Cold War and a divided world.

Duration of the exhibition: September 13 - December 6, 2024
Open every Wednesday and Friday, 1-6 p.m.

In cooperation with the Fotograf festival. The exhibition was supported from public resources by the Art Support Fund.

There are places we avoid. We stay away from them. We prefer to make a detour. We don't talk about them, it's taboo. The exhibition Passage Through The Space explores our relationship with places that have been affected by war or military activity. They have become non-places without a clear purpose or reason for being. Three artists enter these spaces and create a photographic record of the timelessness that reigns in the former Eastern Bloc.

The project of Yana Kononov 'Peat Ontologies' deals with the disappearing habitat of peat bog, which seems to be non-places in relation to human activities. It embodies only an unproductive barrier, but one that has an incredible power to preserve and conserve. This disappearing habitat can therefore teach us a lot about how nature functions today.

Filip Láb and Bára Mrázková use the format of a fictional documentary to explore an abandoned military site that keeps alive the forgotten battles of the Cold War, a memory of a divided world.
