Activity promoted by the Florbela Espanca Poetry Group

A completing, in 2024, 14 years of existence, the Florbela Espanca Poetry Group presents for the 14th consecutive year a poetry recital in honor of what is considered by many to be the greatest Portuguese poet. It is generally ignored that she was called by Fernando Pessoa his "soulmate", having gained prominence and acceptance, for several years, the ostracization of which she was the target, including by women of her century who, with their words, defamed her.
However, Florbela remains and inspires those who read her because there is something unique in the mystical experience of the inner war that she expresses in her verses, bathed in feminine nature combined with the determination that characterizes women who live ahead of their time!
br/>In the words of José Carlos Fernández "The day of death of a historical character is, therefore, the day of birth of his life's work. The work has been completed and has a life of its own, shedding its light for centuries, millennia or even longer and heat, like a vigorous sun or a star high above." It is with the desire to remember the work, contributing to this light and warmth being perpetuated, that the Florbela Espanca Poetry Group invites everyone who wants to participate in this tribute to join a walk through the gardens of the Costume Museum, while you will hear yourself recite some of his poems. The event will take place on December 8th, the day Florbela Espanca was born and died. We will give voice to the experiences of courage and inner freedom of a woman unafraid to challenge norms, maintaining a deep religiosity that was her source of inspiration. Quoting the author once again: “his religion was Philosophy”.
