About event
The webinar provides an overview of legislative requirements from the point of view of POPs legislation in the EU following the Stockholm Convention.
REGULATION OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND COUNCIL (EU) 2019/1021 of June 20, 2019 on persistent organic substances.
Persistent organic substances are difficult-to-degrade organic pollutants for which the internationally used abbreviation POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants) is derived from the English term "Persistent Organic Pollutants). These are low-volatile compounds characterized by a long survival time in the environment, which have the ability to accumulate in the food chain. They enter the environment mainly as a result of human activity, e.g. when used in agriculture or industry or as a result of unintentional activity (e.g. as by-products in various productions) or as a result of an accident. If these substances escape into the air, it is practically impossible to remove them from there by any cleaning operation. They are thus transmitted over long distances and penetrate into areas where they have never been produced or used (e.g. the Arctic and Antarctica). , for which the production, use, import and export of equipment and chemicals containing POPs listed exhaustively in the annex is possible. Pesticides, industrial chemicals and so-called by-products. These are: Aldrin, Chlordane, Chlordecone, DDT, Dieldrin, Endrin, Heptachlor, Hexachlorobenzene (HCB), Mirex, Toxaphene, Hexabromobiphenyl, Dioxins, Furans (PCDD/PCDF), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), Hexachlorocyclohexane HCH (mixture of isomers from categories of pesticides) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).
Following the Stockholm Convention on POPs, Regulation (EC) No. 850/2004 of the European Parliament and the Council on POPs and amending Directive 79/117/EEC
