The Petrol Jesus project plays with the image of a false savior of the late fossil age in the exhibition situation of Galerie Stanice 6. It explores the characteristics and attributes of a character in which political power, media kitsch, economic brutality and the desire for a miracle merge into one grotesque icon. The metaphor of the oil messiah opens up a field of topics ranging from the fetishization of (false) authorities, "fact distortion" (bending of facts) or post-truth rhetoric, to performative self-staging and the bodily consequences of a world saturated with violence, waste, fear and various forms of spectacle. On the contrary, it works with fragmentation, collaboration and overpressure as a method. Three groups of authors transform the individual rooms of the gallery into different but mutually resonant situations: a grid of image and sound fragments creating an intentionally oversaturated map of political-media dementia, an ironic miniaturization of a power figure, or a body-mutating world in which the problems of (American) society settle in the stomach, organs, images and fantasies.

Petrol Jesus is thus not an exhibition "about one person", but about a regime of images that this it enables the person: about power as a pose, politics as a show, crisis as a brand, and the body as a place where macropolitics turns into intimate contamination. What happens when the savior turns into a pump, an icon into a caricature, and the problem in ourselves?

The exhibition is created as part of the cooperation program between Galerie Stanice 6 and studios of art schools.

The Petrol Jesus project, presented at Galerie Stanice 6, plays with the image of a false savior of the late fossil age. It explores the characteristics and attributes of a figure in whom political power, media kitsch, economic brutality, and the desire for a miracle merge into a single grotesque icon. The metaphor of the oil messiah opens up a range of themes extending from the fetishization of (false) authorities, “fact distortion,” and post-truth rhetoric, to performative self-staging and the physical consequences of a world oversaturated with violence, waste, fear, and various forms of spectacle.

This exhibition by students of the Painting Studio 2 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague does not stem from a unified style or a shared stance. On the contrary, it employs fragmentation, collaboration, and excess as its method. Three groups of artists transform the individual rooms of the gallery into distinct yet mutually resonant situations: a grid of visual and audio fragments creating a deliberately oversaturated map of political-media dementia; an ironic miniaturization of a figure of power; or a physically mutating world in which the problems of (American) society settle in the stomach, organs, images, and fantasies.

Petrol Jesus is thus not an exhibition “about one person,” but about the regime of images that enables this person: about power as a pose, politics as a stage, crisis as a brand, and the body as a place where macropolitics turns into intimate contamination. What happens when the savior turns into a gas pump, the icon into a caricature, and the problem into ourselves?

The exhibition is part of a collaboration program between Galerie Stanice 6 and art schools’ studios.
