Phantasy

The viola da gamba, thanks to its velvety and silvery tone and wide range of means of articulation, from soft whispers to energetic, dramatic accents, is rightfully considered one of the most popular instruments in musical history... Its ability to embrace space and make silence sing was, in any case, very popular in England in the 16th and 17th centuries. The listeners of the concert in the Lobkowicz Palace will travel to the golden age of English gambo consorts together with the members of the Vittorio Ghielmi Viol Quartet, in whose hands these instruments speak like a human voice and express deep emotions. The core of the evening is Purcell's Fantasies, which are considered to be one of the best and also the most complicated works of this genre: they include elaborate counterpoint and perfect mastery of all the polyphonic techniques of the time.

Vittorio Ghielmi - soprano and bass viola da gamba, um. leader
