About event
We cordially invite you to the next MÚA research seminar, the last one in the fall semester of 2024.
One of the tasks of the Premonstratensian order was the support of science and education, which was also reflected in the order's approach to written culture. We can trace its beginnings in the Czech Premonstratensian environment to the time of the foundation of the monastery in Strahov, where the first Premonstratensians brought the then progressive early Gothic minuscule and were responsible for the creation of probably the oldest scriptorium in our country. The aim of the lecture, however, will be to present the written culture of the late Middle Ages, which has so far been on the sidelines of research interest. Among other things, attention will be focused on the diplomatic practice in individual canons and the reconstruction of their book collections.
The lectures will be given by Marta Hradilová (MÚA AS CR) and Hana Pátková (Department of Auxiliary Sciences of Historical and Archival Studies of the Faculty of Arts of the UK).
The seminars are held at the MÚA headquarters at Gabčíkova 10, Prague 8, in the conference hall in the basement of building B and are free of charge except for the institute's employees also accessible to other interested parties.
