About event
The cult album Mother Earth's Plantasia by the Canadian composer and electronic music pioneer Mort Garson is one of the legendary records today. Garson composed this music specifically for plants to "listen" to, working exclusively with a Moog synthesizer. The album had very limited distribution after its release in 1976 – you could only get it by buying houseplants at a small flower shop in Los Angeles or mattresses at a Sears store. However, it gradually became a cult classic and an important milestone in electronic music. In 2019, the album was even reissued by the American independent publishing house Sacred Bones Records.
Pianists and composers Kristína Smetanová and Haimoni Balgavá rewrote the entire album into a score for four players on synthesizers and expanded the original material with new original compositions. In addition to Kristína and Haimoni, other members of the project are Peter Kunzo and Martin Štefánik. "Plantasia brought us together and at the same time inspired us to create original music thematically related to Mort Garson's original cult record. At the Viva Musica! festival you will also be able to hear the premiere of several songs from the upcoming debut album Plantasia Project," said Kristína Smetanová, who is also known as Kriss Krimm.
Plantasia aims to have a positive effect on plants, and in the spirit of this idea, the quartet expanded the original musical material with new original compositions. In addition to the reinterpretation of the original album, original compositions from the forthcoming debut album of the project will also be performed.
The concert in Stupava is part of the event Picnic in the Park organized by the Regional Tourism Organization of the Bratislava region.
