Workshop: Playing for Irish Set Dances
with Betsy Branch & Maldon Meehan
Youth & Adult musicians welcome
Join us for the first in a new series of workshops on how to play for Irish Set Dancing — open to all melody instruments. In this ongoing series, we’ll explore how and what to play for traditional set dancing, focusing on rhythm, lift, regional styles and connection with the dancers. We’ll also dive into tunes for the Connemara Reel Set, a lively and much-loved favorite on the dance floor.
Monday, November 17, 7:00-9:00 pm
Betsy’s House, contact us for the address
$20 (payable at class, but please pre-register): cash, check or Venmo
This workshop kicks off an ongoing series leading up to the May 3rd Friday Céilí, where Betsy and Gretta will lead youth and adult musicians in playing for a full evening of sets. Participants in the workshop series will have opportunities to play for live dancers at future céilís and events.
All are welcome — come learn, play, and connect!
