About event

Koopkultur and MigrArte Peru teams would like to invite you to the PLURI workshop “Polyphonic Alphabet”.

The PLURI workshop is for everyone who works in the education sector and wants to try out multilingualism in practice.

How can we make the languages tangible in a group so that they become the starting point for learning and creating together? In this workshop we playfully explore the sounds of different languages and use them to develop our own alphabet.

The workshop takes place in three steps:

- Listening and discovering - we listen into different languages and look for typical sounds that make them special.

- Design - we transform these sounds into new characters and thus build our own Alphabet.

- Printing and displaying – the designed characters become stencils with which we print on paper or textile. At the end, we put together the new alphabets and reflect on them.

The workshop teaches a concrete practice for using linguistic diversity creatively and making it visible in groups. The participants will learn an approach that can be transferred to schools, libraries or extracurricular educational work - anywhere where multilingualism is valued and can be experienced in practice.

We are pleased to introduce you to Carolina, who will lead the workshop.
Carolina Giovagnoli is a type and book designer as well as a font artist. She works in the area of writing and book design and develops her own typographic concepts, experimental alphabets and artistic projects in which language and design come together.
