About event

Opportunity makes a thief
Poberta is a thief, a robber, a thief, a swindler, a villain and a crook, but also the "hero" of the thief's comedy Ondřej Hudeček - the first ever Czech director who won at the world-famous Sundance film festival. He set his new film in his native Strážnica during the lockdowns and cast Matyáš Řezniček, Denisa Barešová, Stanislav Majer, and Filip Kaňkovský in the main roles. The Slovak audience can also look forward to Milan Mikulčík, Martin Nahálka or Ján Jackuliak. The atmosphere of the place is completed by local non-professional actors and Slovak dialects, while the exceptionality of the time is reminded by the rules that change from day to day, which allow the Czech national talent to fully develop. During the pandemic, he returns from prison to his hometown and, under the guise of this exceptional situation, plans another "business" with his buddies. The local mafia Assassin (Stanislav Majer) together with a corrupt police lieutenant (Václav Neužil) is trying to find out who is harming them in the district and to get the most out of it for themselves. However, Lupyn needs money for a new life with his love Tamara (Denisa Barešová), so he uses the offered opportunity.
The voice of Pavel Zedníček in the role of narrator contributes to the original processing and the ease with which Poberta oscillates between genres. "In some films, the narrator is supposed to explain the plot, but this is not our case. Pavel Zedníček has a specific voice that gives the whole story a framework. In Pobert, we tell a story that could or might not have happened. We may have made it up a little, but there is always a piece of truth in every story," says director Ondřej Hudeček. Matyáš Řezníček adds to his character: "I like characters who are neither primarily bad nor good. Lupyn is an anti-hero, and that is always a very entertaining discipline - the actor tries to defend his actions and understand where his decisions lead him."
Ondřej Hudeček is the author of the internationally acclaimed short feature film Furiant (awards for directing at the Sundance festival) and the successful documentary Tapes from Nagano, shot in co-production with the USA and Canada, which won the Czech Film Critics Award for the best film in the Out of Cinema category. The film is produced by Tomáš Hrubý from the Czech-Slovak company Nutprodukce, which is also behind the miniseries Burning Bush, the TV series Pustina and Podezření, and the films Manželia Stodolovci and Letná škola, 2001, co-produced by Česká televížia and Slovak Nutprodukcia. Poberta became the first Czech feature film that the artistic director of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Karel Och, included in the program of the nationwide tour Tady Vary, during which it was shown in an exclusive preview in 70 cinemas throughout the Czech Republic.
