Prussia – hardly any name triggers such intense and diverse associations. The range from approval and admiration to rejection and hostility is rarely greater. But: What conceptual career and what history is behind it?

500 years ago, the Duchy of Prussia was not only the first Protestant state in Europe, but also the eponymous forerunner of a later European great power. How do we deal with this name today and how can we understand the recurring resistance to the name in today's German society? How can we come to terms with this name in a balanced way in Germany and Europe today?

These questions are discussed in the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences - founded 325 years ago as the Prussian Academy of Sciences - by:

- Ute Frevert (Berlin)
- Alvydas Nikžentaitis (Vilnius)
- Agnieszka Pufelska (Potsdam)
- Moderation: Christoph Markschies
