About event

Hradčany is probably known by every visitor who has ever been to Prague. They are part of the ancient Royal Road to Prague Castle, history was already walking this way at a time when the right bank part of Prague was still waiting for its development. The participants of the walk will also follow the steps of the monarchs, albeit in the opposite direction.

The tour will start at the local pub U Černého vola, where time perhaps stopped in the 80s or 90s. Participants will learn that drinking beer can also be a godly activity. In Loretánská street, it stops at the chapel of St. Barbory, where they will tell a "rough" story about what the human body can endure, and will not miss the famous Loreto lamppost. The Hradčany Town Hall encourages you to talk about the development of the town and show how people used to measure themselves to see if they got a proper measurement from a merchant.

The life of Hradčany was significantly influenced by two events in the 16th century. The first is the fire in 1541, when practically all of Hradčany burned down, and the second event is the move of the royal court from Vienna to Prague by Emperor Rudolf II. Habsburg. The nobility followed the monarch and thanks to this the square is full of palaces: Tuscan, Schwarzenberský, Šternberský, Martinicky, Archbishopric. So that the participants do not stay only at the palaces, they will talk about the history of the Marian columns and about the local mummy Maria Electa.
