The Russian war of aggression against Ukraine has more than just geopolitical and security implications dimensions, but also poses major challenges for Ukrainian civil society in Europe. In Berlin in particular, a lively scene of Ukrainian activism has emerged since 2022, drawing attention to Ukraine's struggle for freedom and promoting solidarity with demonstrations, cultural projects and information campaigns. The NGO Vitsche, which strengthens and makes Ukrainian voices and subjectivity more visible in Europe. With over 90 organized demonstrations and actions in Berlin, as well as initiatives in the areas of culture, environmental protection and disinformation education, Vitsche has shown how young activists can combine political protest, community building and cultural diplomacy - and how effectively young people can support their home country while living in another country.

Together with Kateryna Derdiuk, project manager, especially in the area of cultural and fundraising projects, we would like to discuss: What role does Ukrainian activism in Berlin play for the European public? How can protests, cultural projects and community building be combined? What strategies are needed to make Ukrainian voices visible in the European discourse in the long term? And how can you help shape a positive future for your own homeland while living somewhere else?

Polis180 is a grassroots think tank for foreign and European policy. Polis180 was founded in June 2015 by a group of committed young people with different backgrounds and political viewpoints. We now have over 600 club members. Our goal is to be the most innovative think tank and talent factory by and for young experts and, as an inclusive platform, to enable them to significantly influence foreign and European policy decisions. With our projects, we offer young people the opportunity to formulate and specify their political demands and present them to decision-makers.
