About event
Portland is the band around Jente Pironet and Sarah Pepels. The two got to know each other during their studies at the PXL Music School in Hasselt, where they discovered that they shared the same musical preferences. With a joint admiration for Elliott Smith, they named their project after his hometown. Portland makes dreamy pop music in which melancholy, acoustic guitars and subtle electronics come together. Their singing, characterized by clear and fragile voices, is the heart of their sound.
In 2019 their debut album 'Your Colors Will Stain', with which they were shown on stages such as Rock Werchter, Pukkelpop, Eurosonic and The Great Escape. For the successor 'Departures' the band went to London to work with producer Oliver Bayston (Boxed in). On the intervening single 'Sensational' the line of layered melodies and introspective texts was continued further.
Portland continues to balance between light and dark, and thus brings a quirky mix of British Indiepop and American folk to the podium.
