Milan Bauer in the Gallery at the footbridge
I will start with who gave the city of Pilsen the nation and the world. I'll take it since the 19th century. So in 1842 the brewer Josef Groll cooked a great bitter lager. Then there were Emil Škoda, Cardinal Josef Beran, actors Jindřich Plachta, František Kovářík, Marie Rosůlková, also Spejbl and Hurvínek with Josef Skupa, Jiří Trnka, Rudolf Cortés, Ladislav Sutnar, Miroslav Zikmund, Miroslav Horníček, Jiří Suchý, Karel Gott Václav Fajt, cartoonist Jiří Slíva and today we have Milan Bauer.
Milan started the career of artists at the Secondary Ceramic School in Bechyně. Here, for the first time, the imaginary lands of our lives approached each other. His teacher there was my favorite pupil of my father, sculptor and ceramist Jaroslav Podmol. Milan, however, did not follow the path of ceramic clay, but chose an even dirty way, the journey of printing color. At the crossroads the painter Spytimir Bursik appeared to accompany the adept on the first difficult section. In addition to technical initiation, you can also track down a certain formal basis.
The already finished graphic artist Milan Bauer founded his art form on the magic of old posters, vignette, pictorial ads, anatomical atlases, xylographic illustrations and didactic boards. His imagination shows with credible accuracy images of unreliable facts. Nature products and the human worldwide take turns until they are merged. Nothing is concealed, everything is clearly sorted and elaborated in detail.
The authenticity is also supplied by the graphic technique used. It is one of the oldest and most difficult gravure disciplines, namely etching. Here we are with the dirty hands. The print matrix is a metal plate. The author must be able to prepare it for his work. Machine facets, polish the surface, wate a protective cover, water the back. Only then comes the phase of creation, when the cover in the sense of drawing penetrates with a graphic needle. The exposed lines then hand over the etching bath. The completed work cleaned with a solvent is eligible for the verification fingerprint. If everything turned out as expected, it is won and its own printing can start. However, this does not mean that the button is pressed on the printing machine and the pictures start to start. Again, it is lengthy, strenuous and very dirty handwork. Despite all this, we all who are dealing with it, we love. We have it all from the beginning to the finals in our hands and we do not mind at all that we will scratch our hands. From there it is close to the so -called used, now called graphic design. Even in this field is very successful. It modifies various prints and has recently also designed postage stamps. Here, too, it applies its distinctive combination of imagination with a sense of order. And so I do not know who would better describe the spirit and majesty of the industrial cathedral in Dolní Vítkovice on a small area. Let me summarize that Milan Bauer has a number of them and all right.
