What barriers to schooling do children and their families face? What kind of support would help them? What solutions have proven themselves in Slovakia and how do other countries approach this challenge? What effect will the upcoming withdrawal of benefits have? Find answers to not only these questions with us.
We invite you on May 21, 2026 to Záhrady - the Center of Independent Culture in Banská Bystrica, where we will discuss the topic of improving school attendance with experts.
Who will discuss with us?
- Andrea Houšková - director of the Elementary School with Kindergarten in Jelšava; author of the project "So kerava?/What are we going to do?", thanks to which her school managed to reduce the number of missed lessons
- Tomáš Matta - regional coordinator of the Zebra program in the Cesta von organization; coordinates work in Zebra clubs, where youth leaders coming directly from settlements develop life attitudes and skills of young people aged 11-19
– Samo Varsik – analyst of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD); helps countries build fairer and more inclusive education systems
The discussion will be accompanied by Michaela Bednárik from the Center for Educational Analysis.
The event is intended for everyone who cares about the quality of education in Slovakia.
