🟥 Prednáška: Alexandra Kusá – Monumentálky / Prípadová štúdia SNG

🟥 The lecture will be devoted to long-term exhibitions and the "Monumentals" project, which has been implemented in the Slovak National Gallery continuously since 2022. It was connected with the completion of the long-term reconstruction of the area on the banks of the Danube. Its launch was conceived comprehensively, as a visitor space with several public functions. This resulted from the definition of the institution at the time - not to perceive the gallery only as a place for exhibiting and storing collections, but also as a full-fledged cultural space in a European city of the 21st century - with everything that goes with it.

🟥 This definition was directly followed by the project "Monumentals", in which works from the collections were placed in the area in such a way that they functioned in a direct relationship with the architecture and not in a relationship with specific exhibition projects. He thus reflected the public, social and representative function of the place. Thanks to the partners, this long-term project was able to move even further and, over time, acquire new realizations of contemporary art directly for specific spaces. He thus tested the functionality and logic of the approach defined before 1989 by Chapter V of the Construction Act. A natural extension of the project were protest actions carried out in the form of artistic interventions from August 2024 to March 2025, when a large mass of employees left the gallery, after which it was no longer possible and there was no one to continue such actions and the area died.
