How we learn and make decisions.
Different types of learning, cognition and their interplay
Probably the best definition of life is that living creatures are cognitive systems. All living things learn—from protozoa to human geniuses—and our cognitive horizons determine the limits of our freedom. It is not just declarative school knowledge, but much of the knowledge is implicit and the learning quite unconscious. Emotions have their own wisdom, different from reason, and intuition needs to be trained to be reliable. We learn something throughout our life - and others only in a limited time window of development. The special crown of human abilities is presence of mind, which decides what ability to rely on in a given situation.
If we are to take self-creation purposefully into our own hands, we must also involve dreams and other dimensions of consciousness, which means restoring religion to the level of the 21st century. Machines may not replace us, they will only make us realize and develop our full human potential, or even surpass ourselves by developing completely new abilities. Let the superman arise from within freely in the forge of the integral fire of love. The single-purpose cyborg enhancement of humans from the outside will trap souls in machines alien to them and will be flanked by Frankensteins themselves.
