About event
Winternitz Villa invites you to another lecture by curator and architectural historian Adam Štěch. Come and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Japanese architecture, which underwent a radical transformation in the post-war period. The lecture will take you through the story of the evolution of bold experiments and adaptations to the dramatic changes in Japanese society between 1945 and 1982.
During the lecture you will learn how the young generation of architects transformed European modernist influences into the unique language of densely populated Japanese cities. Adam Štěch will present his own photographic research that maps the diverse tendencies of the local culture - from the iconic projects of visionaries such as Kenzó Tange, Kishó Kurokawa and Kazuo Shinohara to hitherto unknown and unorthodox examples of modern architecture.
The topics of the lecture will touch on key trends such as modernism, brutalism and the specifically Japanese metabolism, which have helped transform traditional Japan into one of the most modern societies in the world. Period furniture and product design, which is an integral part of the exhibition, will not be left out either.
Bonus for visitors: As part of the lecture, it is also possible to visit the exhibition itself and view the presented photographs and design pieces with your own eyes.
Entry to the villa will be allowed 30 minutes before the event.
