The second semester of the Educational Cycle on Film Art will begin with a lecture on French poetic realism. This will be followed by the screening of the film Day begins and the final discussion. We look forward to your participation. 💙
French poetic realism integrated the lesson of the poetic language of the interwar avantgád and the newly discovered realistic sensibility. Fatalist stories about pre -defeated deducted outdations and outsiders set on gloomy suburbs immersed in the rain or fog are characterized by romantic pessimism, but also bring a new quality of the film's relationship and reality. Under the stylized images and dialogues, as well as standardized stories and characters, the testimony of the daunting times of the ideals of freedom and equality in the shadow of the economic crisis and the onset of fascist regimes. It resists the police during the night, but does not resist persistent memories. Director Marcel Carné shot a story about the rebel outsider according to the scenario of the poet Jacques Prèvert. He approached the inner world of the hero condemned to the tragic fate in a series of retrospectives, and has separated the present from his memories in a little -used way through overlaps. The innovative way of narration, poetic dialogues, realistic decorations and Jean Gabin in the main role made the film Highlong Work of the interwar French cinematography.
