About event
The self-governing region of Trenčín is a leader in Slovakia in supporting the idea of natural gardening - without artificial fertilizers, without pesticides, i.e. without chemical plant protection and without peat. The implementer of the expansion of the Slovak network of certified nature gardens - whether private, school, company or public spaces - in the pan-European Natur im Garten system - is the civic association Center of Environmental Activities from Trenčín (www.cea. sk).
Natural gardening is based on the cooperation of man and nature. Non-use of agrochemicals and peat are basic conditions.
In addition, elements of natural gardens should be represented on the largest possible scale in natural gardens (wild vegetation, natural meadow or lawn with elements of natural meadow, hedge of wild bushes, wild corner, wet and/or dry special habitats, "dead" wood, shelters for animal helpers - hedgehog, snake, birdhouses and feeders, lizard tree, huts for bats, dry wall, shelter for hornets, for ladybugs, "hotels" for solitary species of bees,...).
Procedures and ways of managing the garden should be nature-friendly (use of rainwater, compost, green manure, use of nature-friendly materials, mulching, mixed cultures, crop rotation, gentle and mosaic mowing, varied assortment - both perennials and trees and thickets, growing vegetables, fruit, deciduous and coniferous trees, not creating light smog, prioritizing water-permeable paved surfaces and paths...).
All of this should contribute to the basic meaning of natural gardening - to ensure such a level of biodiversity, diversity in the occurrence of fungi, plants and animals that the garden is a self-sufficient ecosystem. In such a system of ecological/natural balance, nature itself can cope better and more efficiently with all dangers - be it drought, torrential rains, frost, the appearance of molds or the proliferation of various pests.
Free entry.

• Richard Medal, director of the Center for Environmental Activities
• Marianna Holušová Ružičková, gardener architect
