The Department of State History and PrF law cordially invites him to a lecture by dissident František Stárek "Chuňas", who, based on his personal experience, will bring criminal repression for samizdat in the 1970s and 80s. The lecture will take place on Tuesday 29. 4. 2025 from 4pm. In the lecture room PRF MU 140.

František Stárek (*1952), known under the nickname Čuňas, is a Czech dissident, publicist, signator of Charter 77 and a former political prisoner. Since the age of 70, he was one of the leading representatives of the Czech underground and cultural opposition to the Communist regime. He was convicted in the process with The Plastic People of the Universe and after his release published the samizdat magazine Vokno - one of the main periodicals of independent culture. He was sentenced to two years in prison. After his release he continued his dissident activity, cooperated with important representatives of underground culture and supported independent publication and art projects. In 1989 he became a member of the Coordination Center of the Civic Forum and then worked in BIS, where he had at the request of Václav Havel to discard members of the StB. Later he devoted himself to researching the repressive components of the communist regime. Today he works at the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes.
