About event
The Malostranský hřbitov association invites you to the last pre-holiday lecture entitled: "Přemysl Pitter and Olga Fierzová – child care in times of crisis", which will take place on Tuesday, June 23, from 5 p.m. at the branch of the Municipal Library in Prague at Smíchov, nám. 14 October 15, Prague 5.
The lecture will present two key figures of Czech humanitarian history – Přemysl Pittr and Olga Fierzová. In the context of this year's 50th anniversary of Pittr's death, he will offer a comprehensible overview of their life destinies, motivations and daily work in Milič's house in Žižkov. The ideals of Přemysl Pittr and the pedagogical expertise of Olga Fierzová turned the shelter into a place of safety, education and cultural enjoyment for children from poor and vulnerable families. Special attention will also be given to Olga Fierza, her methods, musical and educational work and why her role is often neglected in popular narratives. The lecture will describe specific educational procedures, community activities and practical steps that helped children overcome the social and psychological consequences of war and persecution. In the end, the post-war Castles Event will be remembered, when Pitter and his team turned abandoned castles into sanatoriums and refuges for hundreds of children. The program will be supplemented with photographs and short archive samples.
Long-term associate of our association Helena Chalupová from the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University will give a lecture.
Free entry, without reservation and without barriers.
