About event
Director: Robert Kirchhoff
Country: Czech Republic, Slovakia
Year of production: 2023 / Footage: 116 min.
--
Director Robert Kirchhoff uses the "Dubček phenomenon" in this effort to present as wide as possible, both a lot of archival footage and freshly filmed material. Whether it is people who had a relationship with Dubček himself, or historians, they all talk about a polarizing personality whose legacy is not easy to deconstruct. Dubček's childhood, the period of his greatest fame during the Prague Spring, and the infamous events that followed are discussed here. We gradually get to the present Slovak politics, which still uses his legacy. Is Dubček an idol or a fallen idol? Hero or coward? All men will be brothers, through various forms of material, they represent him primarily as a man. With all the possible good and bad qualities associated with it.
