About event
📣 We invite you to the next screening of Wim Wenders' films, which we bring to you in cooperation with the Goethe Institute and the Wim Wenders Foundation on the occasion of the director's 80th birthday.
🎞️ Individual films in chronological order will present the rich work of the German film giant. We continue with the film OVER BERLIN (Der Himmel über Berlin, Wings of Desire) from 1987.
One of the most impressive films of world cinema of the 80s. Director Wim Wenders set the story of his best-known and most successful work in Berlin, which was still divided by the wall at the time. Cities whose separate parts were connected by an underground subway and the sky above. The axis of his original film essay is the story of two modern-day angels, of which Damiel gives up eternity for the circus trapeze artist Marion and becomes human. However, Wenders' and Handke's angels do not quite correspond to conventional ideas - that's why their favorite place is not the church, but the Berlin library, where the spiritual values created by mankind are concentrated. Six years later, Wenders returned to the film in the loose sequel So Far, So Near! and in the USA there was an overly Hollywood remake of City of Angels with Nicolas Cage.
